The only shame is that it doesn’t fire from an open bolt like the original. After five days of front line fighting, three airborne infantrymen of the 17th airborne division, take a break before going back for a rest, on the outskirts of Essen, Germany. IT IS meant for those of us who want to legally and cheaply get the feel for shooting that Thompson we all know and love. It is definitely not for those that are looking for a 45acp carbine for defense, many lighter and cheaper options are available IMO. Overall am very pleased with my buy and very much so enjoy both the nostalgia and workmanship the weapon provided.

I see no need to spend sixty dollars on the lighter spring kit that others have suggested. Many complain about the difficulty pulling the bolt to the rear and while harder than an ar15, it was by no means “impossible” as others have described, it also was considerably easier after shooting and cycling the weapon. Many seemed to complain about the reliability, this was not the case with my rifle reliability was fine with only the one stoppage mentioned. Things such as the screws backing off of the rear sight had been fixed by the proper staking of all four screws at the factory. Problems in the design, do to Kahra, that may have been experienced by other owners looked to have been solved in the manufacturing process. However, if fired rapidly the weapon would climb this is due to the fact that the bolt itself weighs over two pounds and was slamming back and forward, not the actual expenditure of the cartridge. Recoil from the weapon was negated by the weight of the rifle in comparison with the cartridge type, so very little felt recoil. I contributed this to the break in, as no other stoppages or malfunctions were experienced during the course of fire. The only stoppage that was experienced was within the first 20 rounds and it was a failure to fully seat the round into the chamber. The factory magazine functioned perfectly and did not cause any reliability problems, as I had heard it can, It can be a bit hard to load at times but once again I feel that this is due to it design age and not the manufacture. Accuracy was impressive at 25yards, (farthest distance I shot it) around a 4-5 inch group with an entire magazine fired from the standing. However, the slack in the trigger is tremendous, once again this is due to its 90 year old nature, not the manufacture. The trigger broke at what I thought was around 5-7lbs.

Shouldering the weapon is a bit nostalgic, its weight is around 12+ pounds with a full 30round magazine and it was definitely tiresome while trying to place well aimed shots in the standing position.

Overall I was very pleased by the quality of the firearm.ĭuring shooting (300 rounds expended, time 1hr): The blowback action takes a little getting used to, this was the first time I had fired a moderate caliber weapon that operated in this method (besides a 10/22 or a MK-19, neither are relative though.) I only mention this because it sparked my attention and one could tell the difference. I was initially shocked by how clumsy the ergonomics of the weapon were (do to the design being almost 100 years old, not by the reproduction process). Both fit and function were also flawless, weight also appeared to match the original. Both wood and mechanical components seemed of sound construction and quality. While looking into buying my TM1 I didn't find a lot of information about this model specifically so I thought I would post what i thought of it here, maybe this could help someone else.īefore shooting: I was very pleased with my initial inspection of the weapon.
